Let’s talk real-life German!
Hi, I’m Marwan 👋
I’m a native German speaker and a certified DaF tutor.
I created this newsletter for learners who are done with textbook German and want to understand how German is actually spoken in real life 🇩🇪
Most learners don’t struggle because they don’t know enough grammar.
They struggle because real German sounds very different from what they learned in courses, apps, or school.
People don’t speak in full, perfectly structured sentences.
They use fillers, shortcuts, half-sentences, rhythm, and tone.
That’s exactly what this newsletter focuses on.
What to expect here
Everything I share is based on:
my work as a certified DaF tutor
years of tutoring learners around B1–B2
real conversations I hear and have every day
patterns I see again and again in learners who feel “stuck”
You’ll find:
authentic dialogues you’d actually hear in Germany
natural expressions, particles, and phrasing native speakers really use
spoken German that sounds relaxed, normal, and human – not stiff or academic
Each issue is short, focused, and practical.
You can read it quickly, listen to the dialogue, and start using the language right away.
Who this is for
This newsletter is for you if:
you understand German but struggle to speak naturally
you’re around B1–B2 and feel stuck on a plateau
you want German that feels alive, not theoretical
It’s not designed for complete beginners or exam-focused grammar drilling - and that’s intentional.
A bit about me
I grew up in a multilingual, multicultural household, with German as my native language. I’m originally from Düsseldorf, but traveling and living between cultures has always been a big part of my life.
Over the years, I’ve met - and worked with - many people learning German from all over the world. I genuinely enjoy that process. For me, language is one of the most natural ways to connect with people.
That’s also why I’ve been tutoring German for years:
not just to teach rules, but to help people feel more at home and more confident using the language in real life.
Again and again, I see the same thing:
progress speeds up when learners stop translating and start thinking in German.
This newsletter exists to help you do exactly that - consistently, without overwhelm, and with a bit of humor along the way 🙂
