Today’s topic is something you might come across at some point: the word „Quotentürke“. It’s often used half-jokingly, but depending on the situation, it can carry a bit more weight. There’s even a song about it, check it out here:
Literally, the word combines Quote (quota) and Türke (Turk), and describes someone with Turkish heritage who is included in a group to fulfill a diversity expectation. Often as “the Turkish person” in a team or company.
I turned this into a dialogue because, being partly non-German myself, I’ve started noticing how often these kinds of dynamics come up in everyday conversations.
